JFS is the metropolitan Jewish community’s central social service agency, offering a safety net of services to families and individuals undergoing a crisis, counseling and mental health services, and assistance to older adults to optimize their being able to live independently. SMSF granted funds to support the JFS “Access Barriers to Health Management Program’, introducing an integrated care program for older adults, which would address chronic disease management with a “no wrong door” access to a comprehensive array of services. JFS will provide older adults and their caregivers with individual and group health coaching, healthy lifestyle education to help identify health issues and to provide access to appropriate services. |
Michigan Medicine

SMSF granted funds over 2 years to the University of Michigan Department of Neurology to help support research to better understand the relationship between diet and brain cognition, in light of recent trends of positive correlation observed between obesity and Alzheimer’s Disease. |
Jewish Federation of Detroit

The Jewish Federation of Detroit raises and distributes funds to take care of those in need and to build a vibrant Jewish future in Detroit, Israel and for Jews around the world. SMSF approved a grant to support emergency relief efforts in Ukraine, supporting food, medical, housing, transportation, and other basic care needs for evacuees and those unable to re-locate. |
Tamarack Camps

Tamarack Camps offers Jewish camping experiences for children and families, respectful of financial ability. During a typical year, Tamarack Camps served approximately 1,200 overnight campers, 400 staff, 1,300 family camp members, 100 volunteers and over 10,000 participants at its year-round “Tamarack Adventure” and “Retreat Center”. SMSF granted funds to help replenish the camp’s Health Clinic with necessary medications, first aid kits and other supplies that are critical to delivering high quality medical care to campers and staff. |

Planned Parenthood in Michigan (PPIM) currently provides care at 14 health centers throughout the State of Michigan. PPMI’s mission is to promote healthy communities and the right of all individuals to manage their sexual health by providing health care and education and serving as a strong advocate of reproductive justice. SMSF granted funds to support equitable access to reproductive health care and education and to reduce the disparity in sexual outcomes in Southeast Michigan among individuals due to their race, gender identity or socioeconomic status. |
The Friendship Circle

The Friendship Circle offers a variety of educational and social programs for children with special needs and those suffering from substance abuse and isolation, as well as respite care to parents. SMSF granted funds to establish a comprehensive mental health and recovery resource center of local and national treatment providers. |

The Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network

The Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network established in 1998, was created to ensure that no Jew is ever alone when facing chronic, serious, or terminal illness. JHCN partners with hospices, hospitals, and health care agencies to ensure that patients and their loved ones receive the best care possible wherever they choose services or treatment. SMSF granted funds to elevate the awareness of care partners of the agency as a resource to terminally ill individuals living in Southeast Michigan, and to improve access to their families’ end-of-life care services. |

Gilda’s Club’s mission is to “ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by our community”. SMSF granted funds to support educational lectures to provide enhanced health literacy, both in person and virtually. |

The Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter offers a broad range of free programs and services, funding for research and advocacy efforts on behalf of Michiganders. The Michigan Chapter serves 18,000 Michiganders annually, those with or at risk for Alzheimer’s / dementia, caregivers, families, and healthcare providers. SMSF granted funds to support the development and implementation of a” First Responder Training Program”, which will increase dementia knowledge and awareness among first responders and provide them training regarding how to appropriately approach situations involving a person with Alzheimer’s / dementia. |
